I don’t know if you have written about it, but I am far more concerned about the mother of all grifts that was undertaken in the first Trump administration, and that has continued at a breathtaking pace in this administration.

Do you know what I did a couple of weeks ago? I had been wondering if all my FB posts about the Gaza genocide — and yes, Zionist Christians’ complicity in that — were being shadow banned, because I’d get lots of likes and ha-has for non-Gaza-related posts, but zippo on my posts informing about Israel’s genocide of Palestinians. So I decided to send a mass forward— through FB Messenger to a list that included at least a couple dozen church friends— of Caitlin Johnstone’s sarcastic “no difference between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism… religious practice and support for genocide virtually indistinguishable… why the last time I tried to pray the Rosary, I got confused and bombed a children’s hospital” quip. And boy did I get feedback then! But I welcomed the opportunity to interact as graciously as I could one-on-one with a few “God curses those who curse Israel” believers, challenging them with perspectives they might not’ve been exposed to before.

Not that I had anything to do with this, but it’s a victory and so I’ll share it here: my pastor said, in a sermon last week: “it can be disorienting and a challenge to our faith when we see other Christians behaving or endorsing things that seem so wrong to us. One thing is certain, though, the people responsible for the genocide ARE NOT GOING TO GET AWAY with it! Maybe Justice won’t come as soon as we want, but it will come.” I’ve appreciated my church’s ability to preach the Gospel and serve the community without leadership getting involved in divisive political wrangles, but I was so delighted, I sent the pastor a thank you email. And he sent me back an answer encouraging me to continue to “shepherd [my] voice speaking out on behalf of oppressed people.”
