It is important to understand that the Houthi movement against the established Yemeni government is essentially an internecine civil struggle that has been going on for over twenty years, now involving third parties with their own political-religious agendas. And it is clear that any third party involvement (Saudi, US, Iran, et al.) is unlikely to end the hostilities, as this latest US debacle has now demonstrated. In any case, results will not be happy for ‘outsiders’ who get involved.

China’s position in the region, like all their foreign policy, is consistent. To avoid military conflict, but support diplomatic solutions. China has diplomatic relations with the Salem Saleh Salem bin Braik government, but not the Houthi faction. However the US has accused China (without offering any hard evidence) of militarily supporting the Houthis. It is not clear why China would do that, and most rational observers think that this is simply one of the usual anti-China canards now expected from America, these days.
