Oh Lord, it’s happening–the remanufacture of Trump by the Establishment. During the campaign, Trump and the Basilisk had nothing in common but their hair dye. Now, almost daily, he looks more like her.

He gets embarrassing. Regarding the alleged gassing in Syria, quoth Donald:

“When you kill innocent children, innocent babies — babies, little babies — with a chemical gas … that crosses many, many lines, beyond a red line. … And I will tell you, that attack on children yesterday had a big impact on me … my attitude toward Syria and Assad has changed very much.”

God almighty. Who wrote this–a middle school girl with C’s in English, or the President of the United States? Did he retire to his bedroom for a good cry?

Apparently he ordered his missile strike without bothering to find out what happened. The usual suspects are driving him like a sports car.

The election was a choice between fetor and a lunatic. We chose the lunatic. Whether this was better than the alternative, we will never know, but Trump is going from bad to worse, or as the Mexicans say, de Guatemala a Guatepeor.

Does he believe this stuff? Is he naive enough to think that there was something unusually horrible about the attack? Horrible, yes, but not in the least unusual. Do you know what everyday, boring artillery does to children? Five-hundred-pound bombs? Hellfire rockets? Daily Mr. Trump’s military and his allies daily drop shrapnel-producing explosives on people, cities, towns, adults, children, weddings and goatherds in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. Good draft-dodger that he was, he probably has never seen any of this. Good psychopath that he may be, he may not care.

This whole gas-attack business smells to high heaven. It looks nicely calculated to force him to attack Assad. Gas was important: Killing babies, little babies with explosives is so routine that no one cares, but we have been programmed to shudder at the thought of Gas!

Actually artillery has killed several orders of magnitude more people, but never mind.

Targeting children was a nice touch. Definitely a PR bonus. So Donald goes into his Poor-widdle-fings weep, while Americans weekly kill more children in three to seven countries, depending on the date.

Is the man consciously a liar? Hasn’t got sense enough to think before operating his mouth? Actually believes what he says when he says it?

Glance at a small part of the record and focus on his changing his tune, not on whether you agree with a particular policy. Erratic, erratic, erratic. He was going to run out the illegals within two years, absurd but he said it. Going to put high tariffs on Mexican goods. Didn’t. On Chinese goods. Isn’t. Tear up the Iran treaty. Didn’t. Declare China a currency-manipulator. Isn’t. Ban Muslims. Hasn’t. Promote good relations with Russia. Isn’t. Get the US out of Syria. Ha. Make NATO pay for itself. Isn’t. The man has the steely determination one associates with bean curd. You cannot trust anything the man says.

Having been reprogrammed as a good neocon, bombing places he promised to get out of, looking for a fight with Russia, he is now butting heads with Fat Thing in North Korea. He his said things closely resembling, “We have run out of strategic patience with the North. If nobody else will take care of it, we will.” Grrrr. Bowwow. Woof.

The problem with growly ultimata made for television is that somebody has to back down–that is, lose face and credibility. If Trump had quietly told Fat Thing, “If you crazy bastards scrap your nuke program, we will drop the sanctions,” it might have worked. But no. Negotiations would imply weakness. Thus an ultimatum.

So now either (a) Fat Thing knuckles under, humiliating himself and possibly endangering his grasp on power or (b) Trump blinks in a humiliating display of the Empire’s impotence, possibly endangering his grasp on power.

Kim Jong Il, or Il Sung Jong, or whatever the the hell the latest one of them is called, shows not the slightest sign of backing down. So does the Donald start an utterly unpredictable war, as usual in somebody else’s country, or does he weasel off, muttering, and hope nobody notices?

Fred’s Third Law of International Relations: Never butt heads with a country that has a missile named the No Dong.

Many of us favored Trump, slightly daft though he was, because he wasn’t yet Hillary, wasn’t yet a neocon robot, and didn’t want war with every country he had heard of, apparently meaning a good half dozen. At least he said he didn’t, not yet having been told that he did. In particular, he didn’t want war with Russia. But when the neocons control the media and Congress, they can convince a naive public of anything and, apparently, the President.

Why is the Hillarification of Trump important? The necessary prior question: What is the greatest threat to the neocons’ American Empire? Answer: The ongoing integration of Eurasia under Chinese hegemony. The key countries in this are China, Iran, and Russia. (Isn’t it curious that, apart from the momentary distraction of North Korea, these countries have been the focus of New York’s hostility?) In particular if Russia and, through it, China develop large and very profitable trade with Europe, there goes NATO and with it the Empire.

Oops.

Thus the eeeeeeeeeeek! furor about Russia as existential threat and so on. Thus sending a few troops to Baltic countries to “deter” Russia. This was theater. The idea that a thousand garrison troops can stop the Russian army, which hasn’t gone silly as ours has, on its doorstep is loony.

Hillary was on board with the Russia hysteria and the globalization and the immigration and so on. Trump could have screwed the whole pooch by getting along with Russia, so he had to be reconfigured. And was. A work in progress, but going well.

Too much is being asked of him. One man cannot overcome the combined hostility of the media, the political establishment, the neocons, the myriad other special interests that he has threatened. Mass immigration is a done deal. China develops and America, already developed, cannot keep up. The country disintegrates socially. Washington, always depending on war and its threat, faces a new world in which trade is the weapon, and doesn’t know what to do. The culture courses. The world changes.

Yet if only Trump showed some sign of knowing what he is doing, and could remember from day to day, if only he realized that wars are more easily started than predicted, if only he were not becoming an unbalanced Hillary.

Yet, apparently, he is.

  1. Trump Becomes Hillary

Whoa, let’s be fair now. Hillary was bombing for freedom and democracy, and Trump is bombing for the beautiful little babies. Big difference. Uge.

Trump’s emotive side has always been part of his personality – he couldn’t have been elected without it. Romney couldn’t emote or fem it up, though he tried manfully.

As for Trump’s tenure, he risks a Nixonian presidency. I’m not referring to Watergate. Rather it was Nixon’s choice to concede much ground on domestic policy (long-term effects) to gain capital for foreign policy (short-term effects). Though Nixon knew that his enemy was the press, the Jews, the civil servants and the professors, his legacy is the EPA, mass immigration, affirmative action and the loss of the gold standard. By ending the gold standard, Nixon allowed the Jews to bury the goyim under a mountain of debt, public and private.

Vintage Fred… and all so true, so sickeningly true. Not that it wasn’t predictable, it was; and it’s predictability would have been much more in evidence but for the concurrence of two factors: hope springing eternal and all that nonsense and the Clinton family’s egregious trail of pestilent corruption.
Of course, even so, Clinton would have been worse than our post literate President, herself having already notched several countries in her prior government service. Once one has thrilled to the news that one’s enemy has been hunted down in a ditch, sodomized, and dispatched, the appetite for more such delights cannot be mollified by picking an odd Supreme Court Justice; or by getting one’s ample ass kissed in the Oval Office by the usual sybaritic courtiers. After all, blood lust is quenchable only by blood.
So where does that leave us: with a President whose language skills were honed by reading the blurbs on the books he had other people write for him and who would be hard pressed to name 3 countries in the world unless the country had a ‘beautiful’ golf course.
We are in serious trouble; anything can happen; there is nothing we can do about it but hang on and hope for the best.

    Fred,

In his campaign Trump was consistent in only two things: nominating a “good” Supreme Court Justice and seeking coexistence with Russia. I believe that he has kept his first promise based on the political fortitude of Gorsuch’s mother (the apple never falls far from the tree, etc.). He has obviously failed on his second promise (reapproachnent with Russia).

I believe that the rest of his administration will be a long litany of political failures. I also believe that his next SCOTUS appointment will be another O’Connor/Kennedy/Souter type abomination!

If Trump’s going to give us Hillary’s aggressive, interventionist foreign policy then he should at least humor us and start wearing pantsuits. Today I learned that Rawhead Rex Tillerson and Nimrata Haley fired salvos at Iran and put them “on notice”. So far Trump’s presidency has been 60% Jared Kushner/Ivanka/Israel first and 40% America first.

Apparently he ordered his missile strike without bothering to find out what happened. The usual suspects are driving him like a sports car.

C’mon, Fred, we don’t need no stinkin proof. We are the exceptional nation with exceptional intelligence agencies who know everything and who would never lie to further a specific agenda. If we say a nation or leader is evil then they are. Period. End of story.

Besides, only people who attended the Kennedy School of Government are qualified to offer an opinion.

  10. Truly shocking that Fred’s declaring Trump’s Presidency a colossal failure 90 days in. Never would have expected that from Fred Reed, who had so many nice things to say about Trump in 2015 and 2016. Oh wait…no he didn’t. In fact, he has always despised Trump. So this whole “many of us favored Trump” is a total crock. He never did.

And while the Syrian strike does suck, illegal border crossings were at a 17-year low in March. I bet that annoys Fred.

(NB: we can only guess what exactly HK would have done)

    – ordering more and more strikes on the Syrian army in defence of “ISIS”; “Assad must go” …

    It’s comparatively fine, I say.

Yes: Trump was rather dirty from the get-go. Since he took the job he dirtied himself even more. (1)
    2. In no time, he created an even bigger mess than it used to be.
    3. We ‘wait’ powerless while the main problems (after festering for long) are still not fixed.

And that’s a typical experience with a repairman.
It would be ridiculous for anyone to make complaints like 1,2 &3 in awareness that things need to get repaired. The brouhaha was about “fixing” things, right?

(Not to say that Trump is solving the problems, no one can say that.)

The only question is whether he has become fraudulent now or was from the very beginning.
I favor the latter, but I suppose that it really doesn’t matter all that much.

So Trump is a lady for not ignoring Assad killing noncombatants among his people like he is a farmer and they are bugs. The US is the really deluded-values driven one. It is the bully, the black hat sheriff CAUSING all the trouble in the world. If only America would stay quietly in its room everything would be fine.

Fred, Trump uses high faulting rhetoric, maybe a little cloying, but it’s the argot of the job. The Russians have moved loads of their their planes into that bombed airbase to make it difficult to hit again. Or. maybe another great power will be draw further in region as the US backs off. That was obvious the result when Obama couldn’t get authorization for his bombing of Assad; the Russians moved in, only for a short time they said, and proceeded to blast every Syrian rebel formation starting with the moderates, to bits. They are still at it.
If the US stands down then the Russians will be further emboldened and the world will start to make accommodations with them. There are no white hats , no black hats just countries with incompatible interests and a zero sum game they have to play.

One might argue that what the United States should do if China continues to rise is that we should retreat to Hawaii or retreat to the continental United States; and we should pursue an isolationist strategy. And the argument here would be that it doesn’t really matter […]
So not only do we have these oceans, we also have thousands of nuclear warheads, which are the ultimate deterrent. Furthermore, we dominate the Western Hemisphere.

So the United States is an incredibly secure country; and one can make a quite persuasive argument that, even if China dominates Asia, it’s not going to affect the United States in any meaningful way.

My view is that there’s one powerful counter to that argument; and it’s the main argument again isolationism; and it says that if China dominates all of Asia, if it’s a regional hegemon, it is then free to roam around the world much the way the United States, as a regional hegemon, is free to roam around the world.

Most Americans don’t think about this, but the reason that the United States is wandering all over God’s little green acre, sticking its nose in everybody’s business, is because we are free to roam. We have no threats in the Western Hemisphere that pin us down.

Now if China is free to roam because it’s a potential hegemon, it can roam into the Western Hemisphere. It can develop friendly relations with a country like Brazil or country like Mexico. It could put a naval base in Brazil much the way the Soviets were putting troops in Cuba, right?

So what the United States fears about China dominating Asia is the possibility that it will not invade the United States, but that it will move into the Western Hemisphere, form a close alliance with a country like Brazil or Cuba or Mexico, and become a threat to the United States from inside the Hemisphere.

All the fears expressed by George Keenan of a useless confrontation with Russia may all come true to the detriment of humanity!

  36. This is one of Fred’s better articles. Very funny and biting–kind of like Jimmy Dore. I’ll probably link to it.

It wasn’t just Hillary, but the group around Hillary, the Clinton/Bush mafia, that needed to be thwarted. They were in the process of solidifying their ownership of America’s power centers. The Hillary camp still has a death grip on the Democrat party, but they ARE dying and just breaking their grip is worth doing. People now have a chance to put something better in place for 2020.

We are slowly coming face to face with the real power in America, not just their political puppets.

Fred doesn’t go into the nepotism/cronyism of the Trump administration, but it is there and it may bring him down. Perhaps Trump really believes that: “I could shoot people in streets and not lose support.”

As of March 16th, the most recent date for US debt reporting, the US Debt stands at $19,846 billion. President Trump has cut the US Debt burden by over $100 billion and 0.5% in the first two months since his inauguration!
Obama left the federal government approximately $9,400,000,000,000 deeper in debt than it was when he took office eight years ago, according to data released by the U.S. Treasury.
The increased debt incurred under Obama equals approximately $76,000 for every person in the United States who had a full-time job in December, 2016. That debt is far more debt than was accumulated by any previous president. It equals nearly twice as much as the $4,889,100,310,609.44 in additional debt that piled up during the eight years George W. Bush served as president.

The number of undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. remains steady at 11.1 million for the sixth straight year, as a drop in people coming from Mexico is offset by an increase from the rest of the world, according to a report released Tuesday.[…]
More Mexicans leave than enter USA in historic shift
They have been replaced by people coming from sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Central America. Over the last six years, Pew estimates the number of people illegally immigrating from Africa has increased 37.5%, the number from Asia has increased 11.5% and those from Central America have increased 6.3%.

#1 Overreaction, if there is any, is fully justified. In my opinion, there is not nearly enough of it from his base.
Candidate Trump was the only one from the bunch – Dems and Reps – running for POTUS who explicitly backed Assad in his fight against ISIS.
Now he is calling him names and his Admin is planning some kind of invasion of Syria.

It is the principle of the thing: he was ‘America First’, or MAGA, or a lot of pro-American-people positions, and now he has turned into another warmonger in the service of foreign interests.

#2 “He’s bombed”: who gave him permission to do that? POTUS has the right to use US military if US is in imminent danger, but he is not even claiming that, although it would be a lie. His justification for the illegal bombing was the pictures of dead babies, allegedly killed by Sarin. He said it plainly and openly. Not American babies, not Americans – nothing to do with America or Americans. KSA has killed lots of babies in Yemen: why not bomb Riyadh?

#3 “…one chemical weapons stockpile in Syria”: What chemical weapons stockpile? I take it you have not seen the videos of news personnel who were at the air base a couple of hours after the bombing of ‘…one chemical weapons stockpile… ‘: no protective gear; no gas masks; nothing.

Social “science” is nothing more than the use of statistics to push a political agenda. That is why you get bogus correlations, and the use of “proxy” values that give the “researcher” what he wants to see. Then you add a dollop of “peer review” to make the steaming pile seem like it has validity.

For example, I remember one study that “proved” that the environment far outweighed anything biology had to do with intelligence. As a proxy it used the income of couples and the academic achievement of their twins. Of course, the argument is that you don’t have actual data for the intelligence of the parents and kids so you have to use something else.

While it may be true that a poor couple is likely headed by two stupid people, it cannot be said that a wealthy couple is compsed of two smart people. A wife could be smart just not even in the same ballpark as the husband (or vice-versa) or the couple could be two reasonably smart people who both work to achieve their high income or the couple could be two average intelligence people just in the right business.

The study went on to show that the differences between paternal and maternal twins actually showed that genetics played almost no role in their kids intelligence.

That study was so long ago when I was actually allowed on web sites like Salon. Garbage like this is typical of social science.

Clinton as Sec of State advocated unnecessary, non-defensive, unconstitutional, congressionally undeclared WAR against countries and peoples who posed no serious threat to Americans’ safety, territory, or way of life.

The “experience in diplomacy” didn’t prevent Clinton from routinely favoring dangerous and counterproductive belligerence, including drone strikes or severe economic sanctions, against Russia in particular.

The “experience in diplomacy” also didn’t prevent Clinton from supporting the U.S. Government assisting the Saudis in bombing defenseless men, women, and children in their homes, schools, hospitals, and villages in large numbers in Yemen.

The “experience in diplomacy” also didn’t prevent Clinton from supporting the overthrow of Qaddafi, leading to an Islamist surge and increased violence in Libya, not to mention playing a major part in the surge of Africans into Europe.

That kind of “Experience” we don’t need and can’t afford. Nor can the world.

  111. @Stephen R. Diamond

If you say so. There was a lot of pearl clutching and shattering of fainting couches from the peanut gallery (what I call the GOPe conservatives who are still bum hurt the electorate rejected them as much as Clinton for failing to actually conserve anything), lots of speculation about it really being a message to Xi, some who wanted Ivanka banned from the White House, and a host of other reactions. I saw very little outright “Yay! Bombing!” until the MOAB strike on ISIS, which Trump *did* campaign on.

I personally did not like the Syria strike at all, but I live in the real world where nothing is remotely perfect. I have no room in my house for a fainting couch and pearls make me look fat, so I continue to look and move forward.

As for delusions, everyone I know is quite aware that the fight against the dyscivilizational globalists and their legions of useful idiots is a long and hard one. We’re already looking to 2024 and who we can possibly meme into position to carry on the war.

This is how the presstituting Reuters have been making their stinky brew. At least, the Reuters’ relationships with ziocons are clear like daylight and we can be quietly assured that no objective and truthful information could be find out in Reuters’ reportages.

This is how the presstituting Reuters have been making their stinky brew.

I’m not sure what this has to do with Reuters. Reuters only reported on the “six-page French document … drawn up by France’s military and foreign intelligence services” and presented by French foreign minister Jean-Marc Ayrault. There are similar reports published by the Guardian, the CNN, etc. In fact, as far as I can tell only Reuters provided (in the link you posted above) a quote from Peskov in their article…

Then we have been looking for different Reuters reports: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-mideast-crisis-syria-intelligence-idUSKBN17S0RY
You could see with your own eyes that Reuters avoids mentioning any specific lab. Moreover, Reuters rely on the previous accusations (2013) against Syria, which since then have been debunked by Postol. See an open letter by Postol to the scoundrel Kaszetta, a co-worker of Eliot Higgins aka Billincat. Higgins has been a loud accuser of Syria and Russia in all possible sins; for these efforts, his words have been cherished by MSM: https://cryptome.org/2014/08/postol-debunks-kaszeta.pdf
I would certainly trust Postol, the fearless MIT professor, than to the Atlantic-Council “expert” Higgins and Co. You may want to check Higgins’ incredible credentials, namely the lack of any solid education; he is an ignorant opportunist finding a niche with MIC. Both Atlantic Council and the Department of War Studies, King’s College, London adore him, for obvious reason. Head of the Department of War Studies, Michael Rainsborough: http://www.kcl.ac.uk/sspp/departments/warstudies/people/professors/rainsborough.aspx

This piece is right on so many levels, but is dangerously deceptive in it’s basic premise: that Trump is just a naive fool who wandered into the Presidency w/o a clue as to who “runs the show”.

Do you really think such a megalomaniac would just “fall off his horse” and be a different person when he woke up? Or that he just betrayed the entire civilized world to appease his twisted tyrant son in law?

No, you know darn well that these “people” are ruthless and extremely deceptive and plan these things decades in advance. Operation Trumpowitz was put into place YEARS ago.

Please, Mr. Reed, stop underestimating (or understating) the enemy.

  125. I know how much you want to believe Trump is the genuine article. Almost as much as I wanted to believe that. He seemed a Godsend to us; someone who would be independent, a nationalist, and not beholden to Jewish blackmail, conjobs, fraud, defamation and the llike. Sometimes you have to step back and tell yourself – if it walks like a Zionist and talks like a Zionist, welll you know the rest. I still remember how my heart jumped for joy when he told a room full of Jewish bilionaires incuding Sheldon Adelsen that they don’t want him because he neither needs or wants their money and that they just wanted someone they could control. That same meeting he refused to commit to Jerusalem being the capital of Israel and was booed as a result. Later, at the AIPAC conference he did state Jerusalem was the capitial of Israel and it was Bernie Sanders that boycotted that event. Now he wants the American embassy to be in Jerusalem!

More in the gas attack. The French “investigators” are not able to perform a professional presstituting and thus made a laughing stock of themselves, for the glory of Israel. https://www.rt.com/news/386404-french-syria-chemical-attack-report/
“The French report in its conclusions stated that only President Bashar Assad or members of his inner circle could have ordered the strike on the town of Khan Shaykhun in Idlib province. The document claims the conclusions are based on samples obtained from the impact strike on the ground and a blood sample from a victim. Earlier, the UK and France claimed that their experts have “received” samples from the site of the incident, which they passed on to OPCW labs who then identified the chemical agent used in the attack as sarin gas.
The Russian Foreign Ministry questioned the validity of the evidence and consistency of the French intelligence report in general.
“Preliminary analysis of the five-page French document raises many questions: First of all, regarding the circumstances under which the French side obtained the samples allegedly gathered directly at the scene of the incident. If the French intelligence services collected the samples themselves, then it means they have free access to the area controlled (as they say in the report) by Al-Qaeda-linked armed groups of the Syrian opposition. If the samples were obtained in some other place… then the consistency of the conducted analysis is immediately in question,” the ministry said, noting that under international regulations, the samples, in order to avoid any meddling, must be absolutely secure across the entire route; from the scene to laboratory.”

The French report does not name any specific lab taking responsibility for the analysis. None of the respectable scientists wanted to participate in the hoax.

A question about the new language. Is this correct? If Trump transgenders, then she is the first woman president. Or do we say, female president?

    @Bragadocious

Trump the candidate was anti-neocon, anti-establishment. He has now shown himself to be both, regardless of Fred’s position on him. Like many ‘conservative/libertarian’ types, he likely held his nose and voted for him. I voted for Johnson out of lack of true choice. It appears my vote was the correct one.

  129. Trump promised to end DACA, now he protects DACA. Terunp should keep his promise. DACA is a very stupid program, very bad for USA Economy. NO other nation accepts to pay for the education of people from other countries that /in addition / entered ILEGALLY. Brazil does not pay for the education of poor students from Argentina or Peru or any other neighbour /or viceversa/ and France does not pay education of students from Spain, etc . Their governments are not stupid like the guys that in USA decided to pay DACA for illegals. USA earns NOTHING for that.
Are Guatemala., El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, paying for the education of millions of Amrican students in poverty,. in those countries? _ NO . And if American students go there illegally, they are deported at once.
