Trump called the Zelensky episode “good TV”. He was right – it doesn’t happen every day you hear honest words and see real emotions in these oval office photo ops.
But I find the Starmer visit, preceding Zelensky, the true spectacle.
You see Starmer reach into his suit, with fawning smile on his face, and take out a pearl white envelope.
You hear Starmer say “it is a special honor to bring a letter from his majesty the king to invite you for a second state visit….This is unprecedented and symbolizes the special relationship between our two countries…” while reaching out to touch Trump’s arm like love-struck teenager with his eyes twinkling. Trump sat there sulking as usual.
The sycophancy was just so graphic that I was laughing so hard some tears literally came out.
Now the chihuahuas barking loudly behind the Rottweiler suddenly face the prospect of confront the polar bear alone. The dignity is out of the window. The toadies cannot prostrate on all fours fast enough in front of the Don.
For poor sad Europe facing the abandonment of an unfaithful lover, the question now is to please the Don, how low can you go?

Being a European, I am more interested in the war of ideas: Trump and Vance clinging to ideas of freedom and democracy which were widespread after the 1950s, but are nearly unknown in present Europe. And indeed, as Europe now is disinterested in freedom and democracy, why should the Americans pay for a (no more) common defence against a (no more) common enemy?

Perhaps you are being ironic, but willing or not your comment is right. China demands much less from the countries that associate with it than the US. The US is deeply ideologized and has a series of “human rights” demands that are unacceptable for most countries (LGBT rights, promotion of gender theory, abortion). Perhaps this will change with Trump, but now the US will start demanding economical and trading privileges that if accepted will be very destructive for many economies. A superpower on the rise is always more benevolent compared to a declining one (as the US was much more benign in the Cold War years than now).

Your point aside for a minute, Eric, in some cases, Trump is using tariffs for leverage. His using them against Canada and Mexico is to get them to stop illegal invaders from coming in. This goes back 15 years. A Chinese manufacture that I was familiar with had a whole container of goods rejected by the big German customer due to just too damn many defects. (Peak Stupidity has long discussed the problems with the Cheap China-made Crap.)
Well, this container got sent back across the oceans, getting stuck at the Suez Canal a while, then eventually making it back to the port at Guangdong, Shenzhen. The company could not get the container from the docks for 6 months. Why? The officials there treated it as imported goods! That’s just what they do.
This story has a funny addendum though: The container made it back to the factory finally. Around that time, the boss and saleswoman went to a trade show in downtown Guangzhou. A customer from Mexico was interested in their products, so they took him with him in the van back 40 miles to the plant. On the way, the boss told the saleswoman that she (the boss was a woman) was going to sell this Mexican customer that container of the rejected goods. (After all, it was already loaded.)
It turns out that said Mexican buyer understood Chinese! I mean, who does that? Needless to say, no deal!

My ultimate reference here is the Catholic scholar Michael Hoffman whose books “The Occult Renaissance Church of Rome” and “ Usury in Christendom” shed a lot of light at the controversial practices of the Catholic Church’s practices vis a vis the J issue or usury.
But I think there is a reason why Zionists and Jews are at loggerheads with the C.C. more than they are with any other sect.
