Check out the cost of bleach since 2019. Gallon used to be less than 2 bucks now its no less than 6 even at discount places. So thats a triple. No actual inflationary explanation or reason for that one – Just gouging – because they can.

The CPI isn’t really a good indicator of the cost of living because it excludes things that have major effects on disposable income. Why for example does it include rent but not the cost of buying a house? Why does it not track actual health insurance costs and only tracks the retained-by-insurers portion? That’s measuring a bottom line kind of number that has nothing to do with what consumers are paying.

Anyway you get the idea. Its a somewhat inaccurate method of understanding consumer burden.

US government officials have accused Israel of leaking information to the media about the Trump administration’s would-be-secret direct negotiations with Hamas in an attempt to sabotage the talks, the Ynet news outlet reports.

According to the report, Israel was not informed of the talks between the US and Hamas ahead of time, as a previous attempt to hold such a meeting had been canceled following pressure from Jerusalem.

As such, Ynet reports, when the US decided to go ahead with the talks despite Israel’s stance, it was decided that Jerusalem would not be informed of their existence. Nevertheless, when Israel’s point man on the hostages, Maj. Gen. (res.) Nitzan Alon, got wind of the talks, he informed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about their existence.

The first media reports regarding the existence of the talks between the US and Hamas appeared less than a day after Netanyahu was informed of them, Ynet says, leading the US to suspect it was behind the leak.

Citing US officials, the report suggests that Israel leaked the information with the intent of sabotaging the talks as it is opposed to being left in the dark as other parties make arrangements for the future of the Gaza Strip.

Furthermore, the report suggests that Jerusalem opposes the talks as it is concerned that the US will lose interest in pursuing a complete hostage deal for all remaining captives if it succeeds in freeing the five US citizens held by the Gaza terror group.

So far. I’ll offer three reasons for optimism.

First, the days of Abba Eban, Golda Meir, and Israel being at least superficially ‘one of us’ are fast departing. They’re a nation of openly murderous thugs, and more and more people seeing that. I’ll refer you to Israel’s plunging favorability among the Left. Not so long from now, to hate Trump will be to hate Israel, and that’s definitely a step in the right direction.

Secondly, our days as global hegemon are also fast becoming ancient history. Even at best, we’ll only be one of several big players. China’s not about to fall under Israel’s spell, for example. So whatever we think, it may not be enough to save the Kosher State. Even now, Israel-love is a phenomenon increasingly confined to the Anglosphere and Germany. Here again, Trump-hate and ‘standing up to Trump’ could turn out to have its advantages.

More and more, more people are going to see lots of reasons — idealistic and pragmatic — to dump Israel and fewer and fewer to keep kneeling down.

Finally, I’ll point out the theoretical reason Israel cannot endure. Every successful conqueror throughout history has relied on some combination of assimilation, being assimilated, and extermination to prevail. Don’t do one of these, you pass from the scene.

Israel can’t turn to any of these. Obviously, to either assimilate or be assimilated directly contradicts the idea of Jewish state — an Israel in anything but name couldn’t survive either one of these approaches.

Extermination? We just saw what peak Israel could accomplish. They managed to kill perhaps one percent of their gentile population — and drove out none at all.

All the indicators are pointing ‘down.’ If Israel were a stock, I’d say short it.

BEDFORD, MASS., March 17 (UPI)—The Air Force reported yesterday that an Atlas intercontinental ballistic missile had photographed radiation belts circling the earth at an altitude of more than 700 miles.

Officials of the Air Force Cambridge Research Center here said a package of photographic emulsions was recovered from the nose cone of an Atlas fired at Cape Canaveral, Fla., last July.

The missile nose cone, with a cargo of instruments and emulsions, was picked out of the Atlantic ocean near Ascension island about an hour after the firing and 5500 miles from its launching point.

Preliminary microscope examination of the exposed emulsions, which were composed of sheets of a substance similar to unbacked film, showed “a large population of tracks, chiefly of singly charged particles identified as protons,” the Air Research and Development Command said.

Scientists explained that, despite the brief passage of the nose cone through lower limits of the innermost radiation belt, some 130,000,000 proton tracks were recorded in each cubic inch of the emulsions.

The Air Force said the emulsion package was encased in the Atlas nose cone to provide information on the energy distribution of protons and other more massive particles trapped in the earth’s radiation belts.

The emulsion sheets provided a visual record of activity in the radiation belts which surround the earth; the Air Force said. Scientists said that infinitely tiny nuclear explosions were recorded on the emulsion sheets as a result of collisions of high energy protons with the silver and promine atoms in the emulsions.

As to the free speech issues you raise, I suspect that our representatives notwithstanding, the vast majority of conservative Americans are becoming exasperated with Israel. Yes, they pay lip service to it, because that’s the talking points of Republicans and on Fox News, blah, blah.. But not too many Americans want to fight any more wars for the shitty little state. And lots of Americans, on both sides, are appalled at what’s happening in Gaza.

Hence the free speech crackdowns.

But the main problem, (as I see it), with conservative Americans vis-a-vis the Palestinians, is the general feeling (true or not) that Palestinians are generally woke. Most white America, feels like if they brought them here, the Rwandan refugees would end up using machetes on them.

In short, I’m not persuaded that the left has more contempt for the law. March Madness is well underway, with the month arriving in 2025 like the proverbial lion. Seeing the splayed-out, black feathery remains, I had thought it was an American crow until I saw a comment by one of the FOBBV staff, who ID’d the bird as a coot. ‘Just saw an update from Sandy Speers during news report that only 2 eaglets were visible during the most recent feeding, but snow piled around the nest made seeing into it impossible, and so there is a chance the 3rd eaglet was sleeping, but it should be said that eagle pairs raising and fledging 3 eaglets from the same nest is rather uncommon, and this pair has not had any success at all the last two years.

Well, that’s much of it. Turkey is a majority Sunni Muslim state, and the government should reflect that. Erdogan seems to represent the sentiments and desires of the bulk of Turks rather well. At least as of 2015, the shift seemed to be rather moderate as well. I was in Konya — ‘the most conservative city in Turkey, and proud of it’ — and women dressed exactly as they pleased: hijab, caftan and scarf, Western. It was all cool, apparently. Some churches that were museums have now been reconverted to mosques, and that’s not to my taste — but then, it’s not my country either.

well, please keep in mind that for a lot of people who voted for Trump, (not for Trump per se, but to save whatever was left of their nation so that their children might have some slight hope for a future), do, without question, *like* many of the things Trump has done and is doing. Like exposing the deep rat’s nest of corruption, and ending the war in Ukraine, and ending the uber-corrupt Dept of Education, and ending the corrupt USAID, and deporting violent illegal gang members, and so forth.

I don’t consider myself MAGA, but I too love it when he ends Biden’s and John Brennan’s and Obama’s security clearances. Note that Hamas is still allowed to maintain a safe haven in Turkey, which I see as a good thing.

I also don’t see moderate Islam as a bad thing. After all, neither Saudi Arabia nor the Taliban are very attractive models; extremist Islam, while certainly not our business to correct, doesn’t actually seem like much of a plan. The Islamic Republic of Iran is somewhat more hopeful, but even they feel obliged to persecute Bahais, etc.

Also, note here that Turkey has never been especially fanatical about its Islam. After all, the populace is mostly descended from Christian converts of varying degrees of sincerity. Turkey’s natural center would be moderate Islam rather than the Taliban or the Wahhabis.
